At the end of December 2024, two headlines caught my eye:
"SSM crackdown: Over 6,500 firms penalised for non-compliance."
“SSM probed 19 firms for illegal investment schemes in first half of 2024."
These reports shook me.
36,510 fines were issued.
Over 6,517 legal actions were taken by SSM in 2023 alone – the majority for one simple reason: companies failed to file their annual returns and financial statements on time.
And now, investment scams are being investigated actively under the Companies Act 2016 and the Interest Schemes Act 2016.
From 2017 to June, SSM investigated 197 companies.
19 companies were investigated for illegal investment schemes the first half of 2024 alone
As I kept watching SSM's social media page updates and the enforcement Ops they're actively conducting with Bank Negara, SC, KPDN, MACC, and others... it became clear:
SSM is not holding back in 2025.
